CreaMED/Fostering Creativity and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area as key elements for Regional Sustainable Development: CreaMED Alliance
DESCRIPTION:
Sustainable growth and economic development depends on Creativity and Innovation as the main drivers for competitivenes. In this context the CreaMED Alliance is an initiative aimed at fostering Creativity and Innovation between MED Regions at both, public and private level, as a route to a Regional Sustainable Development. The project aim is to encouragie mutual policy learning, synergies and cooperation in order to provide a framework for developing Regional Innovation Policies within the Mediterranean Area.
OBJECTIVES:
According to the Lisbon and Gothenburg Councils, the European Union set political objectives aimed at strengthening the dynamism of European competitiveness whilst ensuring social cohesion and sustainable development objectives. The need for a more ambitious and broad-based innovation policy, makes that European Regions are asked to increase the investment in Science, Technology and Innovation. Therefore, developing and implementing broad innovation policy strategies must be a major concern for policy makers. Moreover in this context, firms should be stimulated to combine scientific knowledge with experience-based knowledge designing activities that transform ideas into value and link Creativity to Innovation. The MED Programme aligned with these objectives has established as a priority the strengthening of innovation capacities in the MED area as a driver for economic growth and employment. It requires to reinforce the strategic cooperation between economic development stakeholders and public authorities among the Med Regions. Policy makers should concentrate on providing the best framework for innovation, creativity and cooperation.
To support this approach, common efforts are needed to achieve synergies between different policies and initiatives. The MED Space despite its geographical and economic potential still shows certain weaknesses that make it less competitive in a global economy. These barriers should be overcome through Interregional Cooperation by reinforcing their innovative and competitive capacities, involving the main Public Actors to contribute to the development of Regional Innovation Policies. Therefore the MED area needs to enhance its capacity of Creativity and Innovation for social and economic reasons in order to make the territory able to match international concurrence, support territorial cohesion and achieve a sustainable development. In this context emerges CreaMED Alliance as an initiative aimed at fostering Creativity and Innovation between MED Regions at both, public and private level, as a route to a regional sustainable development by encouraging mutual policy learning, synergies and cooperation across the MED Area. It is intended to raise awareness of the importance of Creativity and Innovation for Social Development and Economic Growth, as well as to develop creativity and innovative potential in both, private and public organizations encouraging them to make better use of their creative capacities.
