“Between the Seas”: A Festival for Performing Arts
From the 22th February till the 30th of March 2011, artists, researchers and academic practitioners are invited to submit their proposals for artistic performances and scholarly papers in the framework of “Between the Seas” Festival which will take place from August 29th to September 4th 2011 in New York City.
The festival is supported by the Anna Lindh Foundation in cooperation with Istituto Paralleli, the regional coordinator of the Anna Lindh Italian Network, and it aims at promoting the representation and understanding of Mediterranean identity and culture in North America through the involvement of performing artists and researchers from the Mediterranean and Mediterranean Diaspora.
In particular, the festival aims to share with New York City audiences the vibrancy and diversity of contemporary cultural production from the Mediterranean; encourage exchange and future artistic collaborations between NYC-based and Mediterranean-based artists; explore the different Mediterranean identities; generate interest and debate over Mediterranean identity and culture.
The festival will include approximately 5 invited artists and 10 artists selected through an application process. The organizers are looking for full and short length works, fully developed or works in progress, original or previously presented, in the fields of theatre, dance and music.
The festival is organized for the first time in 2011 with the goal to become an annual event.
