The European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions are two consultative bodies of the European Union. In their consultative work, the Committees have long been committed to sustainable development and fighting climate change. However, are they actually putting their recommendations into practice inside their own offices?To ensure that the Committees act as environmentally as possible, since 2008 the Commitee of the Regions has been engaged in setting up an EMAS-compliant environmental management system.

FIRENZE – Parco agricolo della Piana come caso di studio del progetto europeo di cooperazione interregionale sui “Periurban Parks”. Al via oggi a Calenzano, nell’Altana del castello di Calenzano alto (ore 9), il laboratorio progettuale di due giorni centrato sul progetto pilota del Parco agricolo.Introdurrà i lavori, dopo i saluti del sindaco ospitante Alessio Biagioli, l’assessore regionale al governo del territorio Anna Marson. Medgovernance thematic seminar addressed to Environment will be held in Rome, March 24 2011. Maritime environment, regional strategies and Agenda 21 processes will be the core of the meeting, that will be participated by partners and stakeholders at Mediterranean and European level. Following the successful events of Florence and Marseille, Medgovernance agenda follows its agenda for 2011: a technical meeting of the Steering Committee will also occur in Rome on March 23, to check the financial progress of the activities.

Oceana MedNet is the first complete network of protected marine areas in the Mediterranean and offers a detailed description of the locations of the areas that need protection. It includes 100 places in a Mediterranean area measuring more than 200,000 square kilometres whose protection should help to achieve the target of 10% of protected sea areas set by the UN Convention on biodiversity. The proposal for the first network of protected marine areas (Amp) was made by NGO Oceana.
